Is there a BIG secret to the huge Adsense checks? Yes, you've seen some screen shots earn 5-figure Adsense ... so must I. And that made you think, why some people with incomes of those huge, and you do not.
Whatever people may say, just see these are the only factors that make the difference between you winning and those 'big-guns'.
1 - Location Adsense

Yep ... no secret here. The more traffic you get, the more clicks you are likely to get. And more clicks means more money. But then again, you should think about the type of websites that draw traffic.
I believe many major websites winners actually function in the community. These are similar to forums, photo blog service providers, blogs that have increased its readership and maybe even dating profiles. Another way to do this is where you build your website relating to user content creation. You allow users to create content, such as comments and reviews.
These are the sites where people come back for more. The good thing is that you have to crack your head on the content. If you think you can build one like those, then go for it.
On the contrary, many are actually growing in creeks smaller sites. And they go on SEO for traffic. I must say that this is the most popular when it comes to Adsense.
You and I know there are good ways and bad ways to SEO - yes, the white hats and black hats. Whatever you are doing, that is your choice. Some people make the black hats, but for them, provided that they comply with the AdSense TOS, they have nothing to worry about.
To me, you are doing what you want and take responsibility for the outcome. If you are doing black hat SEO, and you are making boatloads of money - then good for you.
And after that, there are the non-SEO methods. I know of some people who make the arbitrage method. They go for high paying keywords, and then advertise their sites at lower prices. And they make a profit from the difference. It may sound strange at first, but some actually do work.

On the whole ... Adsense is a numbers game. If you find something that works for you, to make more income just to do it again and again. For the SEOers black hat, just building more and more websites.
Unless you successfully build and grow the community website, you may want to build more sites. If you build a site that makes $ 100 a month, then 10 sites will give you $ 1,000.
